The 600 hour Master Esthetics course prepares you to sit for the Virginia
State Board of Cosmetology Master Esthetics License examination. Upon graduation and licensure you will have a thorough
understanding and apply in practice your expanded knowledge in providing advanced procedures. This curriculum is designed
to meet the Board of Cosmetology licensure requirements for Master Esthetician and includes the following modules:
- Orientation
5 hour module No practicum requirement School Policies State Laws and Regulations The Instructor will go over in
detail the School Catalog and discuss the school policies, as well as the current state laws and regulations for Master Esthetics.
- Advanced Business
30 hour module No practicum requirement These lectures and projects will help in understanding professional ethics
and conduct as well as Insurance and liability issues. We will discuss in detail issues facing business owners and the
decision making skills required. In addition we will discuss client records and documentation and compliance with HIPAA.
- Microbiology and Bacteriology
20 hour module No practicum
requirement This theory application teaches the prevention for spreading disease within the salon/spa
and community. We discuss the levels of decontamination, the differences between them and define ways to achieve them.
You will learn OSHA regulations and personal protective equipment requirements. In addition you will learn to read Material
Safety Data Sheets. Understanding bacteriology helps us to better understand the need for preventing the spread. We
will learn the differences between bacteria and viruses, the types of bacteria and viruses most often encountered and ways
to protect ourselves from them.
- Advanced Anatomy and Physiology
65 hour module No practicum
requirement In this module we will expand our knowledge of the human body, its systems, organs, tissues
and cells. We will discuss skin histology fully and you will learn how this knowledge applies in practice. Included
will be advanced skin typing and conditions, advanced diseases and disorders, advanced cosmetic ingredients and pharmacology.
We will conclude with advance home care for your clients.
- Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning
90 hour module 50 Practicum
requirement You will learn the history and development as well as the indications and contraindications
for crystal, crystal free microdermabrasion and dermaplaning. In addition we will cover general procedures and safety
measures, equipment safety and proper waste disposal. With the practicum education, we will focus on machine parts,
techniques and proper protocol, practical application and consultation, and pre and post treatment guidelines.
- Advanced Procedures
85 hour module 40 Practicum requirement We
will discuss in theory the application, indications and contraindications, general procedures and safety measures for IPL,
LED, Microcurrent and ultrasound treatments. The practicum requirements in this module will include techniques and proper
protocol, practical application and consultation for ultrasound and LED. You will perform practical application of LED
and ultrasound treatments.
- Chemical Exfoliation
185 Hour Module 75 Practicum requirement Chemical
exfoliation and peels of the epidermis are the focus of this module and will include education of the necessary skin care
associated with chemical exfoliation, peels and wound healing. Prior to being enable to perform any application of chemical
exfoliation, you must access the suitability of the skin type and conditions and consult on the necessity of pre and post
treatment requirements. You will gain a thorough understanding of chemical exfoliants and their effect on the skin.
We will discuss realistic expectations and the potential results from chemical peels. In practicum, you will perform
a diverse range and strength of chemical exfoliants to include; Enzymes, herbal exfoliants, and vitamin based peels, AHA’s,
BHA’s, Jessner and modified Jessner, and TCA.
- Lymphatic Drainage
120 Hour Module 50 Practicum Requirement In
this module we will discuss in great detail the immune system, the lymphatic system and how this knowledge is necessary in
fully understanding the benefits of lymphatic drainage. We will learn the contraindications and indications for the
safe application of lymphatic drainage. Necessary for safe and effective lymphatic drainage, you will have a thorough
understanding of the flow of lymph. The practicum will include full body lymphatic drainage including the face and neck,
arms, legs and trunk.
